Y members will be dancing, walking, dribbling, swimming and more in support of the YMCA of Southern Interior BC’s annual Move to Give Campaign. All funds raised will support the Y’s financial assistance program, helping make Y programs and services accessible to those less fortunate.
“We are so grateful to our members for their continued support,” states Rhonda Zakala, VP of Marketing and Fund Development at the YMCA of Southern Interior BC. “These events give our members the opportunity to get moving and help others access the same health and wellness programs they value themselves, and they are truly a fun way to build morale and community within our centres.”
The member-driven charitable campaign will run to the end of 2023 with a fundraising goal of $35,000. This year is unique as all donations will be matched, meaning that 200% of donations will directly support the cause.
Events are open to the public, as well as members. For those looking to get active there will be a Benching competition, ‘Zumbathon’, ‘Aquathon’, ‘3 on 3 Basketball Tournament’, and ‘100 x 100’ for swimmers. There will also be two opportunities for families to leave their kids to have fun at the Y so they can have some time to themselves at an afternoon ‘Drop n Shop’ or ‘Mega Movie’ night. Other giving opportunities are also available, including a rubber duck race set to take place in the lazy river at H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.
Currently, one in five children and one in six adults the Y serves rely on financial assistance in order to participate in character and strength-building programs they would not be able to afford otherwise. These include health memberships, child care, swim lessons, recreation and wellness programs designed to help individuals thrive physically, developmentally and socially.
