Learning through play
YMCA A Place to Connect™ is designed for children 5-12 years-old who attend our Before and After School programs. The curriculum is built on many of the principles that guide our Playing to Learn™ curriculum.
Our Before & After School programs are designed to be active, healthy and fun with an emphasis on letting children make their own choices. Our YMCA A Place to Connect™ Curriculum helps children aged 5-12 develop new physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills in a caring, nurturing environment.
Developed by a team of child care experts at the YMCA of Greater Toronto, our YMCA A Place to Connect™ curriculum brings a standard, high-quality approach to how we deliver before and after school care programs across Canada.
The curriculum is based on research from the fields of developmental psychology, human development, neuroscience, education, risk management, diversity and social inclusion, social services and child care.
Our goal is to make YMCA Before and After School Care programs the most enriching places for school age children. Research shows that children flourish in programs that are structured to let them shape the program, by providing opportunities for choice and leadership with a focus on strengths and the development of skills and relationships.
What can my child expect in YMCA Before and After School Care?

We believe YMCA: A Place to Connect is the best approach to ensure a child’s continued enthusiasm and capacity for lifelong learning. The curriculum weaves our mission, vision and values into programming, and strives to develop responsible, respectful, caring, honest, healthy and inclusive citizens.
At the YMCA, we build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. As a charity, we work hard to ensure quality affordable care is accessible to all and make no profit from any of our Child Care programs.
