$86,000 was raised in support of the YMCA’s Strong Kid Campaign.
The 12th Annual Wilson M. Beck Charity Golf Tournament held at the Kelowna Golf and Country Club on July 18th saw players “swinging for a great cause” – to provide local children and families in need equal access to YMCA programs.
“It was truly inspiring to see our community come together again to support the YMCA’s charitable work,” exclaims Rhonda Zakala, VP of Fund Development for the YMCA of Okanagan. “Our communities continue to face unprecedented challenges — increased poverty, unhealthy lifestyles, social isolation, and a decline in our mental health. This significant donation will provide financial assistance to the low-income families we serve so they too can afford Y programs and childcare.”
Along with the tournament’s commitment to the YMCA, the multi-year presenting sponsorship has been provided by Wilson M. Beck, a top locally owned insurance brokerage.
“One important criterium when selecting a charity was that proceeds would stay in the Okanagan,” says Steven Pavelich, WMB Managing Partner and Title Sponsor. “The YMCA is unique in that it ensures 100% of our dollars raised would stay in the community and help those most in need.”
The sun shone on the 144 golfers hitting the first-class greens at the Kelowna Golf Club, with support from the volunteers and staff who helped host the event. Funds were contributed through sponsorships, donations of prizing, raffles, and an online and live auction, all of which contributed to $86,000 raised for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign.
Co-chairs, Dr. John Weisbeck and Alli McNeill share, “We are so appreciative of the board and staff at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club for working with our committee to enable this event to come to fruition annually. We are honoured to be able to raise much-needed funds despite the many obstacles these past years, and want to thank the community, our committee, sponsors, and players for their kindness and support of our charity of choice – the YMCA of Okanagan.”
