YMCA members participated in a duck race, aquathon, toonie pool dives, bake sales, Halloween zumbathon and many other events, fundraising a total of $25,727 to help make Y programs accessible to those less fortunate.

The member-driven charitable campaign ‘Move to Give’ hosted a series of fundraising opportunities and events for members to come together and have fun for a great cause. Members were enthusiastic to participate, with 100% of proceeds going towards YMCA financial assistance which enables the Y to continue offering subsidized programs to those who struggle to afford them.

“The generosity of our members never ceases to amaze us,” states Rhonda Zakala, VP of Marketing & Fund Development at YMCA of Okanagan. “Move to Give provides a strong sense of community and a culture of giving back throughout our centres. This year our members really came together, during a very challenging time for many, to ensure we can keep our doors open to those who have suffered even greater financial hardship due to the pandemic.”

Last year, almost 3,000 underprivileged individuals, including children, youth, adults and seniors, relied on YMCA Financial Assistance in order to participate in vital Y programs and services. These include health memberships, child care, and child & youth programs designed to help individuals thrive physically, developmentally and socially.
